Sam Green (from The Bill) opens Wisbech Foyer
'Beth Green' from ITV's The Bill formally opens Wisbech Foyer
The Foyer, which is part of the Nene Waterfront Regeneration in Wisbech, recently won a prestigious regional award as Best/Public/Community Project in the Local Authority Building Control, East Anglian Built in Quality Awards 2007.
The Foyer opened its doors to seventeen young people in December 2006 and now plays a vital role in providing accommodation, training and mentoring under one roof to help break the cycle of 'no home - no job - no home' that faces many young people today.
The formal opening of the Foyer took place on Thursday 24 May with dozens of guests including the Mayor and Mayoress of Wisbech, Jane Slowey, Chief Executive of The Foyer Federation, Councilor Kit Owen from Fenland District Council as well as the Architects (PDG), Burmor the Contractors and many others who were involved in the planning and development of the building.
Angie Smallwood (better known as Woody) the Foyer Manager said: "I am really pleased that we can now say that the Foyer in Wisbech is now officially open."
We currently have 17 young residents, all of which are either at school, employed, seeking employment or are committed to vocational or educational training. I'm very keen on developing our residents to a level where they can leave the Foyer as responsible young adults, who are able to 'stand on their own two feet'.
