Morecambe Foyer take on the police...and win
Residents of Morecambe Foyer spent the day at the local police station - came away feeling proud after beating the police in a pool competition. The residents held an in house knockout pool competition with the 6 top players entering the Salvation Army Housing Association Diversity Shield snooker/pool knockout competition.
Morecambe Police team led by PC Andrew Clitheroe were the first challengers for Morcecambe Foyer.
The first leg of the competition was held at Morecambe Police station, where the Foyer residents emerged victorious with an excellent 2 –1 win. Round two of the competition will be held at Morecambe Foyer when the residents will welcome the police to the Foyer and return the fantastic hospitality they received from the police.
The competition was organised in an effort to raise the profile of Morecambe Foyer and to break down barriers in relation to stereotypical views.
Now on a high after the win, the Foyer snooker/pool team aim to play against other organisations such as the Fire Service, YMCA, RNLA, and any organisation that is willing to rise to the challenge!

Our Rising Political Star!
Sarah Newsham, a resident at Morecambe Foyer is truly making her mark in the world of youth politics. Sarah, who is quietly spoken, is not afraid of making her views known in the political arena.
Sarah joined the Youth Council three years ago as she had a fascination for politics. She felt strongly that many adults’ perception of young people today was badly misconstrued, and she wanted to do something about it!
This year on the Youth Council she became an executive, which meant that Sarah represented all of Lancaster and Morecambe at regional meetings.
This year, Sarah has become a Member of Youth Parliament; she will now go forward and represent the whole of Lancashire in the UK Youth Parliament. This is an incredibly prestigious position as Sarah is only one of twelve to represent our County.
Whilst climbing the political youth ladder Sarah has met prominent politicians, including our own MP Geraldine Smith and David Miliband MP.
One of Sarah’s greatest moments so far was making a “Stop and Search” DVD with Lancashire Constabulary on knowing your rights. She is also a member of The National Children’s Bureau. Visits to Parliament and several residentials are just some of the activities Sarah has enjoyed taking part in with the Youth Council.
