Foyer Residents' Poetry

The poetry on this site has been submitted as part of Foyer Verse, a poetry competition for young people living in Foyers. The young people have been given freedom to write their own type of poetry, and as a consequence the poems are very diverse in style and subject matter. Many poems appear to be auto-biographical, dealing with the young people's past, and with both the opportunities and the fustrations of life in a Foyer. Other poems are entirely fictional, and yet others deal with current world issues.

Please continue to send your poems in to garmon@foyer.net and we'll put them on here.

The Whitbread award winning poet Paul Farley (www.paulfarley.com)  judged the competition and chose 10 winners. The winners were invited  to a poetry workshop run by Paul Farley, and then recited their poetry at an evening performance at Foyles bookshop in central London.  A report of the day can be read here, and more photos are online at http://www.flickr.com/people/26649777@N00.

We hope you enjoy the young people's work.
